At our December holiday gathering at the residence of Dr. Susan McMillan, a donation to the American Cancer Society in the amount of $265 was collected in honor of Dr. McMillan.


At our December meeting, our chapter collected over 260 individual items items off the general and holiday wish lists in support of the Ronald McDonald House. Luz Diez, cintinues to donate left over food items after our meetings.


At the March 1st meeting a raffle was held and 100% of the proceeds were donated to Family Justice Center of Hillsborough County Inc. Nikki Daniels L.C.S.W., Executive Director Of the Family Justice Center, was one of the speakers at our annual program on Domestic Violence.

Our Chapter’s Board voted unanimously to donate $1000 to the Agnes Manka Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund, and to name our annual Congress scholarship after her as well. Agnes was a longstanding member of The Greater Tampa ONS Chapter and worked the last 18 years of her career at the Moffitt Cancer Center. Agnes died peacefully at home surrounded by loving family, on March 7, 2012, from advanced stage colon cancer.

The annual program for Breast and Gyn Cancer survivors and their families was held on Saturday September 22, 2012. ONS members, members Vivian Cullaro, Kathy Roberto, Mary Ann Morgan, Beth Maddox, Carla Molina, Peggy Rice, Lisa Fox, and Sonia Adamson, volunteered at a table and display to highlight Oncology Nurses and our Chapter Mission. This event drew over 400 women with breast or gynecological cancers. Information on resources for cancer survivors and the ONS Journey Forward Program was made available to all attendees. The nurses were there to answer questions, offer encouragement to survivors, provide assistance in a variety of roles throughout the day, then enjoyed a gourmet lunch and and listened to the inspiring speaker and author Laura Roppe.


The proceeds from our raffle during our program on Domestic Violence in March were donated to The Spring of Tampa Bay.

Our chapter supported long-time member Rita Black, RN, OCN®, CBCN®,  in her commitment to walk 60 miles for the Komen 3-Day for the Cure Walk in October. Rita wrote about the walk and meeting her goal for our newsletter. We raised a total of $150 that was divided between our chapter and Rita’s total which was donated to Komen Race for the Cure.


Proceeds from our raffle and a donation from our chapter were given to the Spring of Tampa Bay at our March 4th Meeting.

We collected carloads of “wish list Items “ for the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge located on the University of South Florida Campus. Items included cleaning supplies, paper items, games, books, and kitchen supplies which are used for cancer patients and their families while staying at the Hope Lodge during treatment.


Multiple carloads of household Items were collected by members and donated to The Spring of Tampa Bay.

Chapter members volunteered at the Advanced Practice Conference and IOL in November as room monitors, working at the Host Chapter table, and collecting toiletries for The Spring.
